Ankle Injuries Risk Factors Among Adolescents :By Associate Professor Dr Sanjiv Rampal Orthopaedic Consultant ,Klang,Malaysia 2024

Ankle fractures in adolescent athletes are associated with several primary risk factors that correlate with injury severity. The following risk factors have been identified:

Age and Sex: Younger age and male sex are significant risk factors for ankle fractures.

Clinical Findings: Clinical findings such as tenderness over the medial and lateral malleolus and inability to walk are significant independent risk factors for ankle fractures

Weight: Patients with a weight greater than the 90th percentile for age are at a greater risk of ankle fractures requiring surgery

These risk factors have been found to correlate with injury severity and are important considerations in the assessment and management of ankle fractures in adolescent athletes.
