The Rampal’s Patient Q & A Technique

Dr Sanjiv I am very worried about my upcoming total knee replacement? Although you have reassured me regarding the procedure with use of multimedia ,google images and video,I often forget to ask you questions especially when in the pre op clinic.


Dr Rampal places importance on consent and providing the best services pre,intra and post-operation. Practising medicine on Malaysian shores has made it important to use newer techniques for better patient outcomes.


One of the techniques used by Dr Rampal to provide better information, reduce the anxiety of the patient and overall better outcomes are asking the patient to write down all questions they want to ask before the procedure in white A4 paper and present them to him during pre total knee replacement clinic. Its been a common practice now in the clinic which has seen this technique to be popular among his patients.


As matter of fact, this technique has produced many questions that needed to be addressed and often mistaken to be common sense. A few examples of this type of questions are


1.Doctor I have hypertension and diabetes, can I still have a successful surgery?


2.Doctor Rampal, I have been on low steroids for arthritis, will it complicate my recovery?


3.Doctor Sanjiv Rampal, I have chronic stable kidney disease, can I still have a successful surgery?


4.Doctor Sanjiv, will the operation be painful?


5.Dr Sanjiv when can I resume sexual activities after my total hip arthroplasty?

This technique has seen better patient understanding and most important answers to burning questions which ultimately reduce pre-operation anxiety and better patient satisfaction.
