Gout Knee Pain: Common Treatment Methods by Dr. Sanjiv Rampal, Orthopedic Consultant in Kuala Lumpur 2024.

The global incidence and prevalence of gout has significantly increased in the past decade. Treatment for gouty arthritis typically involves nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like indomethacin, ibuprofen, or naproxen. Colchicine is also used, especially during the early stages of a gouty episode. Medications to lower uric acid levels are often required long-term to prevent gout attacks. Preventive medications like low doses of colchicine or NSAIDs can be effective in maintaining reduced uric acid levels. Dietary changes, such as reducing alcohol and purine-rich foods while increasing intake of low-fat dairy, healthy proteins, and vegetables, have shown to lower the risk of developing gout. Taking a proactive approach to managing gout can lead to improved quality of life.
